How to buy baseball tickets in Japan?

Look for Tokyo events on Concerts, K-Pop, Music Festivals, Baseball, Soccer, MMA, Sumo or Kabuki!

Baseball is the most popular sport in Japan so often time it is quite hard to get tickets. Here you can find tips about how you can buy baseball tickets in Tokyo!

1. Pick a baseball club to buy tickets

Ticket availability is depending on each club. So you may want to check out what games of a baseball club you are interested first, along with the ticket availability guidance.
Yomiuri Giants Ticket
Fist of all, Yomiuri Giants are the most famous baseball club in Japan and their home stadium, Tokyo dome, is in the heart of the central Tokyo. It is truly a great place to visit. However, often times tickets are sold out super quickly. You may want to buy tickets in advance for Giants game. Their team colors are orange and black. Fans are laid back in the fancy stadium -super relaxing vibes and spectacular view. When they score, they swing around their orange hand towel - so make sure you get those if you want to be the part of this king of Japanese baseball!

Yakult Swallows Ticket
This baseball team has stadium also in a very central location - Jingumae and the home stadium is called Jingu stadium. Tickets are way easier to get compared to Giants. Especially on weekdays, you have a great chance to get tickets.
Their stadium is smaller and the seat is smaller than Tokyo dome's. However, they create one of the most homemade fun feeling and anybody there feels that they are included and would want to cheer for Swallows. Yakult Swallows allows away-fans to sit all the seats(which is quite unusual) so you don't have to be worry about being Hiroshima carp fans anywhere in this stadium. The best part of this stadium is that toilets are so available! Also, their celebration using tiny umbrella along with the music of "Tokyo Ondo" is a great fun. Their swallow mascot is one of the most famous talents here, and if you are lucky you can high five with the mascot.

Yokomaha Baystars Ticket
They recently got very popular with all the events they hold for fans - this is the stadium that always something is going on. But instead, tickets are quite hard to get. Usually almost no tickets left on the match day. They have their own craft beer, balcony wing seat near the bay - isn't it amazing sounding? Also, no corporate member is allowed for season seat holders, so all the people at the stadiums are just personal fans. People there are generally more cheerful. Also, younger fans of Baystars are more likely to be a person who wants to enjoy baseball game as one of the parties they can go - yes, that is the team's marketing strategy. So if you want to grab your drink and screaming and jump, this is a perfect place for you.

Chiba Lotte Marines Ticket
Close to Tokyo Disneyland, there is a huge renovated area called Kaihin Makuhari. This club is located there and surprisingly tickets are easy to get. You may be able to find tickets on weekend too.
Fans say that this club has unique chants that even influence the other clubs with their own Marines jump! That's what makes the club famous and also how fans get addicted to this club. They are also known for their unique seats such as party room, BBQ seats, balcony suite etc. Quite easy access from Tokyo station(about 30 minute ride to the closest station). If you stay or live closer to Chiba, you are lucky! You get to go to easy, fun and accessible baseball game!

Saitama Seibu Lions Ticket
32 minutes at fastest from Ikebukuro, there is a club called Saitama Seibu Lions. They are one of the strongest clubs in the history and they won 2018 and 2019 pacific league title. So tickets are getting harder to get, as the clubs are getting stronger and more popular - it may be possible to get away side of the seat (if you don't mind.)
The team is famous for offense - they score way more than any other clubs! Doesn't it sound awesome to you? Basically, less chance to see a boring game!

Hokkaido Nippon-ham Fighters Ticket in Tokyo Dome
Sometimes this "Hokkaido" based team will play in Tokyo dome as they used to base in Tokyo, and Tokyo dome was their home stadium before moving to Hokkaido. If you encounter this occasion, actually you are lucky - their tickets are cheaper and also more accessible than Giants' but still playing in Tokyo Dome, one of the most convenient location in Tokyo!
This team is known for doing great management to run baseball club as an entertainment business- they consider first member lineup not just for the team to win, but also for fans to enjoy. That means, sometimes it is strategically better not to use some famous players to save for the next important match etc., but they always do their best to select popular players for fans to enjoy, rather than just sticking to wining and show something boring for fans. Great mixture of sport and entertainment - that's the characteristics of Nippon ham fighters.

2. Book baseball tickets

As you could see above, some of club's tickets are easier to get. The others are not. You can see the summary below.

Popular:
Yomiuri Giants tickets Yokohama Baystars tickets Seibu Lions tickets

Slightly Easier:
Yakult Swallows tickets Chiba Lotte Marines tickets Hokkaido Nippon-ham fighters tickets

Still, the baseball is generally popular in Japan so it is recommended to book tickets as soon as possible. Tokyo Event Ticket summarizes the currently available tickets above.

3. Choose from time of the year

Throughout the season, some games are easy to get tickets but sometimes it is really hard. You can find the general idea of when it is easier to get tickets.
Open game: Around from late February to late March, they start preseason game called "open game". Tickets are generally much easier and cheaper to get, as this is before the regular season. It is a chance to see many different players compared to the regular season as the team is still trying to test their strategy and starting members.
Regular season: From the end of March to September, the team will compete within their league; Central league and Pacific league - this is the usual match and ticket availability is described as section 2. Usually they compete against the same league but when they play in the season of open game or inter-league game(usually around May or June), they play against the teams of the other league - if the opponent team is very popular, tickets are very hard to get as fans usually cannot see this card.
All star game:It takes place around July - popular players will be selected and form a “all central league team” and “all pacific league team”. It’s a kind of celebration and fan-appreciation match, so they usually play to amuse fans rather than focusing on the result. As you can imagine, this is a very unique match and tickets are super popular.
Climax series: It takes place in October - this (weird) name means playoff for baseball in Japan. It’s a tournament game to decide which team go to the final game - Japan series. The team that placed 1st to 3rd will play and only the one team who won this playoff will proceed to Japan series. Usually the game is super hot and tickets are instantly sold out.
Japan series: On October right after the climax series, both of the winners from the central and the pacific league will play to decide the number one team of the year in Japan! Of course the fans at this stage are desperate to win and tickets are ultimately popular.

4. Go to a stadium on the event day

The baseball will have their own ticket box office. If luckily some seats are left for sale, you can directly go to the stadium and buy tickets - you should bring cash as most of the places will not allow credit card. You can find the information of the stadium below.

5. Baseball package tickets

Some tour companies will offer to book tickets for you with a tour guide. You can book tickets way in advance, but please be minded that the price is the package price. Still, if you want to secure baseball tickets earlier, this could be an option as baseball tickets are easily sold out.

6. The alternative game would be an university baseball

If professional baseball is too overwhelming to you, they have university baseball competition - which is less crowded and tickets are cheaper.
Most famous university league is called "Tokyo 6 university baseball game"(something similar to Ivy league in America) that takes place twice an year - 1st: April to May and 2nd: September to November.
If there are any other events available, that will be also on our list above!
